Growing up in Bakersfield in a house without a pool or air-conditioning kept us awake steaming in our beds all night even with the window wide open. When we did sleep we'd dream of one day having our own backyard oasis that could offer relief from the heat whenever we wanted. Finally the day came when our family decided to put an above ground pool in our backyard. The night before we were going to officially open we couldn't sleep again. But not because we were too hot this time. It was because our dream of having our own pool was coming true and we were tingling with anticipation and excitement! When the sun came up that day we didn't even eat breakfast. We put our bathing suits on, grabbed our towels and made a bee line for the pool. We swam and played in there all day.
